Walker's Path From an 1837 Township to a 1962 City
Walker Township organized on December 30, 1837 -- the second township formed in Kent County -- and originally covered all the land north of the Grand River; Samuel and Lydia White are credited as its first settlers that same year. Renewed pressure to annex the township's industrial land led voters to incorporate the City of Walker on November 8, 1962.
